When embarking on the exciting journey of painting a room, proper preparation is crucial to achieving a flawless finish. The right preparation can make the difference between a smooth, professional look and a patchy, subpar result. At Creations by Brian LLC, our expert team of painting professionals has years of experience in transforming spaces, and we're here to share some insights on how you can prepare your space for a perfect paint job.
Do you want some tried and true paint tips? If you are brave and bold and want to take on your painting project yourself here are a few must do's to get the professional finish that we at Creations By Brian provide for you. Cover, cover and cover EVERYTHING. We don't make mistakes because we prepare as if we did. Remove any and all breakables from your room and walls so they don't fall or tip over from being covered in plastic or sheets. Cover the floor so you don't have to worry if you spill a bit of paint or get some splatters from the roller. Cover your furniture so if you sit to take a phone call the wet paint on your pants doesn't ruin your furniture. Cover it all, this extra step may add a few more minutes to your preparation, but if anything happens you will be so happy you did it.
Don't ever underestimate the value of cleaning your surface thoroughly. Now, when cleaning your walls or surfaces that does not mean get out your trusty cleaning products like Murphy's Oil Soap, Clorox wipes, Fantastic or Magic Eraser. This means getting out a simple Microfiber Cloth and water, then wipe away. The products (chemicals) leave a residue and create a barrier between coats of paint. That barrier can create bubbling, peeling and other not so pretty results. If you don't know what has been used on your walls prior to you. Then the Microfiber Cloth and water is still your absolute best bet to try initially.
Our third most valuable tip would be to sand your surface. A light, scuff sand. To clarify, no you do not want to get out a sanding pad and sand for the next 20 minutes, you will remove the paint and here in West Michigan a ton of homes have textures on the walls which will create some uneven walls. This means you want to spend about 30-90 seconds sanding each wall or surface, that's it. Paint stores sell sanding blocks or discs which make this process quick and easy. This sanding process helps scuff up your walls to help your paint adhere to the next coat better. Now you will notice that all these things have nothing to do with the actual painting task itself, but these are the absolute best ways to prepare your room and your surface for your next painting project.
